Future iPad 3 Models Referenced in iOS 5

Future iPad Models Referenced in iOS 5

After iOS 5 was announced this past Monday, developers were able to download the beta version for the latest iOS software update. It appears that some who poked around in the iOS 5 code found some interesting hints of future iPad versions. The references include mention of iPad3,1 and iPad3,2.

There are currently 3 versions of iPad 2 referenced in the iOS code as iPad2,1 (Wi-Fi), iPad2,2 (GSM), and iPad2,3 (CDMA). The latest news suggests Apple is getting ready for inclusion of iPad 3 into its software at some point in the near future. If Apple is playing around with iPad 3 code in its iOS software now, it seems more than likely the iPad 3 would be launched in early 2012 – on schedule with first-generation iPad and iPad 2 launches.

For those who can’t get enough of the “iPad 3 is coming out in late 2011″ rumors, this latest news will make your eyebrow raise even higher in anticipation of the next iPad model.

To temper the hype over the mention of iPad 3 models in iOS 5, it should be noted that indications of potential future products within previous iOS code doesn’t necessarily mean those products will definitely be released. Previous iOS versions have mentioned iPhone3,2 which has not surfaced into an actual Apple product yet. But who wants to think about that? iPad 3 will come out eventually, and all reasonable points show that may be in March or April of 2012 at the latest.

Paprika Recipe Manager: Best Cooking App for iPad

Paprika Recipe Manager: Best Cooking App for iPad

For those iPad users who are looking for the perfect cooking app, they don’t need to look any further than the app known as Paprika Recipe Manager. Paprika is a full service cooking app that brings everything anyone who wants to be able to do all their cooking from one app should do. The app itself sorts itself into three different categories that all morph into one great use. The first is of course the recipe storage. The app does not come with its own recipes but that is hardly a problem.

What really sets Paprika apart from other cooking apps is the way you can add recipes. Paprika allows you to surf the web looking for recipes for any kind of meal, snack or desert and with the push of a button will actually import that recipe into the app. How exactly Paprika knows when you are actually on a cooking website is anyone’s guess. This is not the sort of thing where it links to specific cooking websites; you can literally go on almost any cooking or recipe site and pull the recipes down into your app. Once you have the recipe in the app you can categorize it any way you want, meaning after a couple of weeks or months of use, the Paprika could become the most largest, most easily accessible cook book in your collection.

While viewing a recipe you can automatically change how many servings you are looking to make and the app will change how much of each ingredient will be needed. Downloading the recipe doesn’t mean that you have to use exactly the same ingredients as what the recipe calls for. In fact you can edit the recipe however you want in order to make the recipe your very own. While the recipe you are preparing is being made there is also an in-app timer that you can set to time the recipe perfectly.

Of course what good is a recipe if you don’t have the ingredients? Paprika allows you to set up a shopping list inside the app that can either come from the full recipe simply by clicking the “add to cart” button or you can manually add every item. While adding the groceries is a nice touch, this is also the one area of the app that needs an upgrade badly. While most shopping list apps separate items by section of the store, Paprika only separates by recipe…or not at all. Simply adding the ability to have categories on the shopping list would make this app simply perfect.

Finally, the app has a meal planner with an almost endless look ahead feature. Much like the grocery list feature, users can either add meals through the recipe feature or add the meals completely manually. All in all, the Paprika cooking app serves a great service for those who wish to use their iPad for more than just playing games or watching movies and television shows. The Paprika app costs $4.99 but considering that you won’t need another cooking app on the iPad, it is absolutely worth the price.

Which one is the best adblocker for Google Chrome?

All advertisements on every website can easily be disabled in Google Chrome with the help of adblock-extensions that are available for free in the Chrome Webstore. But which one of them is the most efficient in blocking ads on our favorite websites like Facebook and Youtube?

The Google Chrome browser is becoming increasingly popular and gaining about 1% market share every month, most of the users are switching over from Internet Explorer. Besides being faster and more secure, Google Chrome is surpassing the Microsoft browser by offering many free extensions from external developers. Two of the most popular extensions are “AdBlock” and “Adblock Plus” – but what is the difference between the two and which one is better?

Despite the similarity in the name, the two extensions are created by different developers. Chrome Adblock Plus is based on the addon that was originally created for Firefox, with more than 120 million downloads the most popular browser addon in the world. A few months ago, Adblock Plus was ported to Google Chrome and in no time it has become the third most popular extension for Google Chrome. Adblock Plus is developed under open-source license by an international community of voluntary helpers as a non-profit project. “AdBlock” was inspired by this Adblock Plus movement and originally created for Chrome and Safari by an independent developer who is generating revenues with the software by asking for donations.

In order to analyze which one of the two operates more efficiently, the following criteria were used as a basis for the comparison:

  • Blocking capability: How many ads are still coming through with an adblocker enabled?
  • User interface: Which adblocker offers the best customization features?
  • Performance: Is there any impact on the surfing speed?

Blocking capability

Both Chrome extensions are working very similar: Once installed, all ads are gone automatically. The ads are even blocked before downloading, which makes browsing the internet not only cleaner but also a lot faster by saving bandwidth. The items that are blocked are defined by filter lists such as the “EasyList” that originally were created for Firefox Adblock Plus. That’s why both adblockers are blocking the same elements. They do both have one wekness: blocking video ads. While the Firefox version is very efficient in this aspect, both adblockers for Chrome are not 100% reliable on this due to a bug in the WebKit engine Google Chrome is based on. So regarding the first aspect of our criteria, both adblockers work very similar, although Adblock Plus is slightly more advanced when it comes to blocking ads on youtube.com.

User interface

The original Adblock Plus has a rather minimalistic user interface, that’s why it is still in “beta” until it offers the same functionalities as the Firefox version. AdBlock has a more sophisticated user interface and is offering advanced options such as displaying all items that are blocked on a website.

Speed

This is a very important aspect as speed is what makes browsing the web enjoyable. AdBlock has always had an inferior code-basis, causing the browser to crash and slowing Chrome down significantly when a user is opening a new tab. Since the latest update to version 2.4, there has been a major improvement. However, Adblock Plus (which is based on the code that is being used for the Firefox version) is significantly faster (about 30% on the machine used for testing) and has not once caused the browser to crash.

So which one is better?

In conclusion, both ad-blocking plugins block ads reliably, only on video sites they are both inferior to the Firefox version to limitations in Google Chrome. AdBlock for Chrome is older and still has more users. The more sophisticated adblocker, however, is Adblock Plus for Google Chrome due to a significant better performance that is making browsing the web faster instead of slowing it down.

iPad 3 To Boast a Retina Display?

With the iPad 2 just hitting the market a few months ago, it should come as no surprise that the public just wants more and more and more. Now rumors of an iPad 3 have become more than just rumors and plenty of people are starting to turn their attention to what will actually be in these new devices. Apple moves quicker than most when it comes to improving their products and while there are a number of different new features that will most likely be included in the third iteration of the iPad, the one making the most news is the supposed screen resolution.

iPad 3 To Boast a Retina Display

According to several different sources it appears that the screen resolution for the iPad 3 could actually be about twice what the resolution is currently. All of these rumors popped up because of a couple of people managing to get a look at the screen resolution settings of a Twitter framework – of all things – and that little tip has started a bit of a tidal wave of speculation.

While current screen resolution settings are currently sitting at a very respectable 768 x 1024 the framework of the Twitter app makes it appear as though the images will appear with dimensions of 1536 x 2048. This number of pixels would be unheard of on any of the existing tablet PCs and it is the main reason that there is so much speculation about what the new iPad 3 is going to be doing. While increasing the screen resolution to twice what it currently is may seem like quite a tall order, but it is actually not something that is completely unheard of, especially when dealing with Apple. When introducing the “Retina” display on the iPhone 4, Apple had to jack up the screen resolution of their phones from 480 x 320 to 960 x 640 with an increase of pixels of 326 per inch.

Interestingly, even doubling the resolution of the iPad 3 to 1536 x 2048 would fall short of the 300 ppi arena that is supposed to be the very highest resolution the human retina can process when held 10-12 inches away. If the iPad 3 were to sport a display of 2048 x 1536 it would technically be reaching 264 ppi compared to what is currently 132 ppi. Apple could then claim that the iPad 3 is sporting a retina display people tend to hold the iPad’s farther away from the face than people hold iPhones and iPods. Of course while the Twitter framework appears to be as official as anything is going to be until there is an actual release, the rest of this is quite a bit of guesswork as to what exactly the iPad 3 is actually going to be able to accomplish.

If you really want to see just how much speculation can get out of control, check out the recent reports of a Taiwanese newspaper that the iPad 3 is going to have an even higher resolution and pixel count than currently believed, up to five times more than what most people believe they will see.

A Day At The Circus For iPad – App Review

A Day at the Circus by Wombi is a beautifully illustrated children’s book and game app. It is a fun and interactive read-along story filled with animation, sound effects and music.

The book tells the story of what a day spent at the circus is all about. You are swept away to the first part of the circus where you must complete the first puzzle in order to continue the story. Here, you find thinks that are hiding in the dark (don’t worry, they make it really easy to find the objects). Once you find them, the story continues with clear narration, and you are offered four mini-games to play, like drawing faces on audience members and moving the lion’s eyes around. They are very simple games — I wouldn’t even call them games so much as activities. Each story progression has a puzzle you must unlock in order to continue and each page has activities for your little one to play.

Visually, the book is stunningly illustrated with a classic children’s book style. The animation is nicely proportioned without overcomplicating the overall feel for the book. The sound effects are perfectly matched to be enjoyable for your little one.

While the activities, or mini games, are very simple, there are no instructions (like, swipe your finger to the left, or tilt your iPad) to prompt your child as to what to do next. You may have to run through the whole thing once with your child in order to help them understand how to play.

What I liked: The beautiful illustrations and the added feature of being able to read a book and play mini games.

What I didn’t like: Not having simple instructions included with each game might be a bit frustrating at first. It might be nice if the developers added that in an update.

To buy or not to buy: This book is great for toddlers and beginning readers. It is visually stimulating and enjoyable to play along with. If you have a toddler, add this app to your “Children’s Games” folder.
